COVID-19 has changed the way we engage with and empower the communities we serve. The virus has had major implications for the families of the beneficiaries we serve – many families have slowed income, or have lost their forms of income for the next few weeks.

Prochorus Community Development is reaching out to our beneficiaries and their families in these difficult times.

COVID -19 Actions

Prochorus Stellenbosch

What We are Doing

Prochorus Stellenbosch has 7 projects in the Stellenbosch area, covering Kayamandi, Cloetesville and Jonkershoek. Before the beginning of lockdown, they have been aiding their beneficiary families. They have provided food parcels suitable for a family of four, as well as educational resources. Food parcels have been distribuited in all areas in which we operate. In total we have handed out about 210 food parcels.

Prochorus Stellenbosch will continue to hand out bigger (month supply) food parcels in partnership with The Lunch Box fund.

Prochorus Delft

What We are Doing

The Delft Early Childhood Development Project is a community development project that empowers teachers and workers in crèches and early childhood development (ECD) centres in the Delft township of Cape Town. It assists these committed caregivers to develop the essential knowledge and skills needed to lay a firm, educational foundations for local children.

With the national lockdown, our training initiatives stopped. With our established relationships in the community of Delft and funding that we already had, we realised that ECD training would be irrelevant for children and teachers that are starving.

We hope to support these families in the time of instability that lies ahead.

Our aim is to provide food parcels for the approximately 900 children who attend the 17 ECD Centres, as well as their families.
