Mission and Vision

Vision:

Prochorus Community Development exists for the promoting of social development and advancement on both community and individual level.

Our primary focus is to redress the social imbalances in society and secondly to meet the needs and concerns of the local community.

Prochorus Community Developments is committed to the development of all communities with respect to their diverse specific needs. Advantaged communities are targeted for the purpose of mobilising and advancing their philanthropic capacity. Ongoing awareness is established to bring an understanding of their interdependence relative to disadvantaged communities.

Mission:

We serve disadvantaged communities according to the guidelines of need-assessment studies, and the accessibility of resources. Our focus is directed towards Early Childhood Development, Youth Development, Skills Development and Community Welfare.

Prochorus aims toward making a lasting difference in the lives of the people of the communities of South Africa. We do this by contributing towards the education of children and adults, assisting them in acquiring skills that will allow them to become financially independent and teaching them how to protect themselves against addiction, physical abuse and other criminal offenses.

JAN SCANNELL - MANAGING DIRECTOR, PROCHORUS

Jan worked for two years in London, an exciting adventure where    his highlight was encountering Jesus as his personal saviour for       the first time. He was involved with SCAS (Sport for Christ Action   SA) for eight years. During these years he gained a lot of   experience about the NGO environment as well as project leading,   training camps, community development and sport coaching. Jan   has a passion for cycling and competed himself for a few years.   His  greatest achievement was becoming the Namibian cross-   country and downhill champion in 1998. He later discovered that   his passion was to coach others rather than compete himself.   With  great enthusiasm he started a cycling project in 2011 with   about 30 children in the valley of Jonkershoek. His fledgling   cyclists  have developed greatly and continue to fall in love with   mountain biking.

When Jan is not cycling in the mountains, he can be found with his wife Jacomien and two sons.

JACOMIEN SCANNELL - OPERATIONS MANAGER, STELLENBOSCH

Jacomien Scannell did two gap years serving at SCAS   (Sport for Christ Action SA). During this time she gained   a lot of knowledge about different communities and   also grew a heart for the poor and previously   disadvantaged. After that she studied Marketing   Management at Boland College in Stellenbosch. In her   final year she started to work at Optimal Energy as the   marketing assistant. During the beginning of 2012 she   a  and Jan, her husband, realised that there was a   community within the valley of Jonkershoek just   outside  Stellenbosch that were not able to access the   most basic resources. Through hard work,   determination and a ‘don’t give up’ attitude they began   an Educare centre which provides the local children with a safe place to access learning materials, tutoring and computers. This centre combined with the sports programmes they offer have given the children opportunities to develop their day-to-day lives.

Jacomien is passionate about seeing broken people given opportunities to which take them on a journey towards wholeness. She forms a great team with her husband as they serve the community of Jonkershoek. When not serving the people in the valley, she loves to spend time with her husband and young son relaxing in the outdoors.

Sanet comes from a background of jewellery and graphic design, and has also been much involved in events décor.

SUNE BASSON- OPERATIONS MANAGER, JOHANNESBURG

By profession Sune is a Chartered Accountant that has always had an interest in
skills development. After she qualified she moved into providing training
full-time in the accounting industry.

As a Christian she was also often faced with the frustration of sharing the gospel without being able to help people
practically in their everyday lives. The idea to provide entrepreneurship development and skills development was borne out of pure frustration with the dire needs of our country and a desire to make a difference. As she was already part of a community and Prochorus was established in the Western Cape the avenue was available to her to pursue as an avenue of support for which we wanted to achieve our goals. Sune  is a crucial part to the Paradigm Shift program in Johannesburg
